Xiamen University

Xiamen University (XMU), established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education. XMU has long been listed among China’s leading universities on the national "211 Project", "985 Project" and "Double First-class" initiative, which have been launched by the Chinese government to support selected universities in achieving world-class standing. XMU is renowned as one of the China’s "most beautiful universities" for its picture-postcard environment and excellent education facilities. Siming Campus (main campus of Xiamen University) has unique natural and cultural landscapes, such as Furong Lake, Lover’s Valley and Furong Tunnel. Several building groups have been listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit, including Qunxian building group, Jiannan building group and Furong building group.

Nanputuo Temple

The Nanputuo Temple is located at the foot of Wulao Peak in the southeast of Xiamen Island, adjacent to Xiamen University. It is one of the Buddhist holy landsin southern Fujian province. All the buildings in the temple adopt the traditional Chinese big roof with double eaves and flying ridges in an ancient palace style. The Nanputuo Temple leads directly to the Wulao Peak, so one can climb the mountain for recreation in leisure time. Besides, the vegetarian food in this templeis well known which also attracts more Buddhists and tourists. Among most delicious snacks, Nanputuovegan pastry is in the front rankof Xiamen’s famous specialties, which is well worth tasting.



Island Ring Boulevard

The Island Ring Boulevard is a main road around Xiamen Island, located in the southwest coast of it. The Island Ring Boulevard was built along the coastline withendless blue ocean,unique scenery of the ancient fishing village, romantic couples taking wedding photos, andmerry tourists collecting shellfish. We suggest ridingalong the Island Ring Boulevard where you can have a panoramic view of these beautiful sceneries.



Xiamen Botanical Garden

Xiamen Botanical Garden is setamidst Wanshi Mountain in the southeast corner of Xiamen Island which is a well-known tourist attraction in southern Fujian. It combines local natural condition with cultural and plant landscapes. The garden is set on rolling hills and dotted with grotesque rocks, forming a dramatic rocky landscape.Major tourist attractions in the garden include “Dawn Bell Ringing from Heaven’s Border”, “A Thousand Scepters Facing Skywards”, “Road on Purpled Cloud”, etc, all of which are on the list of Xiamen’s top sights. The garden, first built in 1960, contains more than 6,300 kinds of tropical and subtropical ornamental plants and comprises 10-plus unique smaller dedicated gardens. Xiamen Botanical Garden is not only an important base for botanical research and popular science, but also a good place for people to travel and relax.



Zhongshan Road

Zhongshan Road (also named: AmoyYatSenRoad) is located in the southwest of Xiamen Island. It was built in 1925 and connects two important scenic spots, Zhongshan Park and GulangyuIslet. The street is a traditional arcade building.
Zhongshan Road is the birthplace of Xiamen's business. It is still one of the most prosperous business districts in Xiamen.
Zhongshan Road is in an old city block where a relatively intact modern and contemporary historical stylein Xiamenis preserved . There are a small walking road, the former residence of Chen Huacheng (a 19th-century military leader of Qing China), the first Chinese church and other cultural monuments. Zhongshan Road is not only rich in cultural relics, but also rich in intangible cultural heritage. Nanyin (It is a kind of the oldest surviving ancient music in China), Taiwanese opera (a Chinese traditional opera), and moon cake gambling have a long inheritance in Zhongshan Road. It is the best place to experience the historical charm, taste the delicious food, and go for a walk. [Moon cake gambling is an activity held at Mid-Autumn Festival. It was created by Zheng Chenggong, and the original intention was to ease the feelings of homesickness at this special festival and inspire soldier’s morale. By the way, the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2019 is on 13 Sept.]



Gulangyu Islet

Gulangyu (Literal meaning: Drum Wave Islet. The sound generated from waves hitting reefs sounds like tum) was listed on the World Heritage List in 2017 and was developed as the 52nd World Heritage Project in China. Its streets are short and crisscross, and it is the largest islet in Xiamen. Cars and bicycles are banned on the island. It faces the Xiamen Emall (Xiamen Twin Towers) and Xiamen University on Xiamen Island. Gulangyu has excellent geographical, climatic and scenic conditions, and is very suitable for living. It has abundant plant populations and various vegetation such as arbors, shrubs and rattan. So far, 90% of Gulangyu’s buildings are residential buildings. Gulangyu also has the only piano museum in China whichcollects over 200 pianos. In addition, there are famous scenic spots such as Sunlight Rock, Memorial Hall of Zheng Chenggong, Haoyue Garden (in honor of Zheng Chenggong) and Yu Garden (in honor of Dr. Lin Zhiqiao). During the day, you can enjoy the warm beach sun, and all the noise in the night fades away, leaving only the gentle sea breeze blowing your face and the long chirping of cicada in your ears, and you can enjoy the quiet and leisure alone, facing the pure heart.
